Care & Maintenance Guide

Hardwood pieces are made to be used. Simple hand washing, prompt drying, and periodic board butter will help the surface stay stable, warm, and ready for daily life.

Wash by hand with mild soap. Dry immediately. Never soak. Never place in dishwasher.

Daily Care

Wash by hand with mild soap and warm water after use. Dry immediately with a towel, then let the piece air dry fully before storing. Store upright when possible so both faces can breathe.

What To Avoid

Never soak hardwood pieces, never place them in a dishwasher, and avoid leaving them against standing water or direct heat. These conditions can dry, warp, or crack the wood.

When To Re-Oil

Apply board butter monthly for heavy use or every few months for light use. If the surface looks pale, dry, or rough to the touch, it is ready for maintenance.

Applying Board Butter

Rub a thin, even layer into the clean dry wood, working with the grain. Let it sit for several hours or overnight, then buff away any excess with a soft cloth.

Removing Odors

For lingering food odors, wipe the surface with a little coarse salt and lemon, then rinse lightly by hand and dry immediately. Refresh with board butter once fully dry.

Handling Minor Scratches

Light knife marks are part of a working board. For minor roughness, use very fine sandpaper with the grain, wipe clean, and reapply board butter to restore the surface.

Board Butter

A quiet layer of protection for working wood.

Board butter helps protect hardwood boards from drying, cracking, and daily wear while keeping the surface food-safe and pleasant to handle.
